Registered Midwife

Location: Geraldton

The Geraldton Regional Aboriginal Medical Service is seeking to fill the above position in its Geraldton Clinic.

Responsibilities are to provide culturally secure nursing and midwifery care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander mothers, babies and children present to the GRAMS Family Health Unit.

The occupant of this position will be expected to comply with and demonstrate a positive commitment to the highest level of achievement in Equal Employment Opportunity, Work Health & Safety, Code of Conduct, Quality Improvement, Performance Management, Customer Focus and Confidentiality throughout the course of their duties.

Essential:

• Registration with the Nurses and Midwives Registration Board of Western Australia.
• An understanding of community midwifery practice and allied health teams, including the ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
• Previous experience in community based, primary health maternal and child health care.
• Previous experience in working with pregnant women, newborn, infants and health care.
• Ability to undertake triage of clients, in particular those presenting to the practice with acute or emergency problems.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• An ability to work independently without direct supervision.
• Excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills.
• Phlebotomy skills.
• Sound computing skills.


Desirable:

• Previous experience in community midwifery.
• Knowledge of and certification in childhood immunisation practice.
• Registered with the Nurses and Midwives Board as a Child Health Nurse.
• Registered PAP smear provider.
• Knowledge of Aboriginal culture, health and related issues and the ability to work effectively with the Aboriginal people of Geraldton and the Murchison.
