Full-Time - Aboriginal Liaison Officer

GRAMS is seeking a passionate and committed Aboriginal Liaison Officer to support Aboriginal clients in accessing culturally safe, high-quality health care.

Working collaboratively with clients, hospitals, health professionals and community organisations, you will advocate for Aboriginal people, strengthening partnerships and ensure continuity of care across the health system.

About the Role:

• Laise with hospitals, health providers and community organisations to coordinate culturally safe care.
• Advocate for Aboriginal clients and support informed decision-making throughout their healthcare journey.
• Promote culturally appropriate models of care and service delivery.
• Improve access to health services across the Midwest and Murchison regions.
• Build and maintain strong partnerships with health providers and community stakeholders.
• Support clients living with chronic disease and mental health conditions.
• Assist with reporting, documentation and continuous quality improvement activities.
• Promote understanding of Aboriginal culture and health issues within the health sector.
• Participate in professional development and continuous learning.

Essential Requirements:

• This is an Aboriginal identifies position under Section 50 (d) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA) – Applicants must identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strat Islander.
• Previous experience working within the health system at a clinical level.
• An understanding of the principles of primary health care with a special emphasis on chronic disease and mental health.
• Knowledge of Aboriginal culture, health and related issues and the ability to understand and empathies with the social and health issues that impact on Aboriginal people of the Midwest and the Murchison regions.
• Demonstrated effective communication skills (inter-personal, verbal and written).
• Experience in working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  
  

Desirable:

• Advanced Certificate in Aboriginal Health Work or Associate Diploma in Aboriginal Health Work or accredited alternative qualification.
• Registered with AHPRS as an Aboriginal Health Practitioner.
• Understanding of the principles of program development, implementation and evaluation.

Mandatory Requirements:

All applicants must hold or be willing to obtain:

• National Police Clearance
• Working with Children Check.
• Current unrestricted C Class Driver’s License.
• Successful applicants may be required to participate in drug and alcohol testing in accordance with GRAMS policies.
