Geraldton Regional Aboriginal Medical Service is committed to providing culturally appropriate support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander living with disability under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
New Remote Community Connectors were employed in Mount Magnet (Alana Barnes) and Geraldton (Tristan Mongoo) to help deliver support service in rural and remote communities.
The NDIS team travelled to Northampton and Dongara to assist with family engagement and promoting NDIS services to community members and families experiencing barriers in getting support.
The Remote Early Childhood Support Team will also travel to Wiluna and Meekatharra to connect with children, families and providers, ensuring education and support is available to young children and families in need.
Program Coordinator Erin Mongoo says that the program provides an opportunity for people with disability to develop themselves and reach their potential.
“We travel regularly to regional areas to provide support to vulnerable communities and families. Our goal is to help our communities gain access to culturally responsive disability services and empowering individuals to achieve their goals.” Said Erin.
