A Yarning Circle is starting at GRAMS for local Aboriginal people over the age of 18 who have had a stroke or traumatic brain injury (e.g. from a fall, car accident, sports injury, assault).
Stroke and brain injury can have long term effects on the person themselves as well as their family and community. They can both result in difficulty walking or talking, but also can affect memory, concentration, behaviour and personality. Group support from others who’ve been through the same thing is often beneficial to social and emotional wellbeing of all involved.
The Geraldton Yarning Circle is run by local health professional Maureen Merritt. It’s part of a project being undertaken with Edith Cowan University.
Come and share coffee and cake and yarning about your journey after stroke or brain injury!
If this is something you or a member of your family might be interested in, please call Maureen on 0429 345 645.
