GRAMS participated in the Morawa NAIDOC Day event this week to celebrate the culture, history and achievements of Australia's First Nations Peoples.
The event began with the NAIDOC street march to celebrate the pride and diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The event also included the flag raising ceremony to symbolise the respect and appreciation for the local Aboriginal heritage, culture and community.
There were also guest speakers, including GRAMS Chief Executive Officer, Deborah Woods and GRAMS Suicide Prevenetion Coordinator, Elaine Laraia, to commemorate NAIDOC week and share the meaning of this year's theme 'Heal Country!'.
Thank you to the Red Ochre Band and Streeties Dancers for their fantastic performances.
Many stalls were set up on the day, including GRAMS stalls from the NDIS Access Team, Social Emotional Wellbeing, Tackling Indigenous Smoking and Dead Cru. Raffles were also given to everyone who attended the stalls.
Pedina Walley, Katrina Thompson, Anthony Brown and Azizah Roe from the NDIS Access Team share promotional resources to the community in order to increase awareness and access to NDIS in the Midwest region.
There were playful sensory activities available for children such as stress ball making, touch painting and play dough moulding to encourage them to explore, create, and experience while having fun.
Many schools across the Midwest region attended Morawa NAIDOC Day, including Mingenew Primary School, Coorow Primary School, Eneabba Primary School, Perenjori Primary School, Yalgoo Primary School, Mullewa DHS, Morawa DHS, and WA College of Agriculture.
Azizah from the NDIS Access Team said it was a successful day with many people attending the stalls to engages with the GRAMS teams.
"It was wonderful to see everyone participating in the activities and learning about the programs available at GRAMS, including NDIS," said Azizah.
"NAIDOC Day was an opportunity for us to celebrate our culture and Country, and I'm glad we were able to be a part of it."
