GRAMS partnered with Desert Blue, Radio Mama, Act Belong Commit, WA Police and the Shire of Morawa to deliver the 2022 Midwest NAIDOC event to celebrate the achievement, history, and rich culture of the First Nations people.
It was an awesome day out for families, students and all community members to enjoy many fun activities, including arts and crafts, interactive games, sausage sizzle, and dancing to country rock tunes by Red Ochre and Craig Pickett.
Over 250 children from ten schools across the Midwest and over 100 local community members came together to Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up! amplifying our collective voices to narrow the gap between aspiration and reality, good intent and outcome.
The GRAMS team had several stalls at the NAIDOC event and had the opportunity to engage and yarn with the community as well as promote our services and programs. The kids had a great time participating in fun and educational activities and learning about health and wellbeing.
13 Elders also travelled from Geraldton to join the event, enjoying a scenic drive on the trip to Morawa. There were lots of laughs and stories being shared on the bus, and everyone had a fantastic time at the event.
The Elders look forward to the next big day out in warmer weather and thank the GRAMS Health Promotions Officer David Batty for organising the Elders' day trip along with the Transition Care Program team and student Doctor for their support.
GRAMS is delivering more NAIDOC later this month including the Elders Luncheon and events across Midwest schools and community groups.
