GRAMS celebrates 20th anniversary of National Reconciliation Week
The theme of National Reconciliation Week for 2021 is “More than a word. Reconciliation takes action”, which calls on everyone to move from ‘safe’ to ‘brave’ and make more impactful actions towards the reconciliation movement.
2021 marks twenty years of Reconciliation Australia and its mission to strengthen the relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures, and futures.
To commemorate the 20th anniversary and celebrate National Reconciliation Week, GRAMS hosted a morning tea at the Museum of Geraldton to celebrate the success of the GRAMS NAIDOC 2020 photography exhibition as well as reflecting on our shared histories, cultures and achievements.
GRAMS CEO Deborah Woods said National Reconciliation Week provides an opportunity to explore how every one of us can join the national reconciliation effort.
“Reconciliation is more than just a word, it’s an action. We all have a role to play when it comes to reconciliation,” said Mrs Woods.
“I want to propose a challenge to everyone: every day, every week, every month, do something for reconciliation.”
GRAMS CEO urging everyone to take action towards reconciliation
Museum of Geraldton Manager Leigh O’Brien said they’re delighted to join with GRAMS to mark National Reconciliation Week 2021 together with the community.
“The Museum acknowledges and reocognises the importance of amplifying Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices,” said Ms O’Brien.
“We celebrated the success of the GRAMS NAIDOC 2020 photography exhibition, which has been seen by thousands of people since the exhibition opened on 14 March and is on display until 13 June.”
